ST. LOUIS – An infant is in a local hospital after being shot on Friday morning in northern Saint-Louis.
According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting took place around 11 a.m. in the 1300 block of Temple Place, located in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.
Officers found a 20-year-old at the scene, who told them he was standing on a porch holding an 8-month-old girl when he heard a gunshot. The man then noticed that the baby had been shot in the arm.
The child was rushed to hospital and remains in serious condition.
Neighbors cannot believe that another child is the victim of gun violence.
“The only thing I came across while the police pulled over and just saw a baby come out.” And they asked me if I had seen anything and I told them I hadn’t seen anything and they were like it was an 8 month old baby, ”said neighbor Kayla Harris. “We shouldn’t hurt ourselves like that at all. There are too many people dying; children, babies up to 14 years old, all that. They are children; it’s just sad.
Mayor Lyda Krewson also spoke about the shooting.
“The violence we are experiencing across the country is devastating for everyone. Programs like Cure Violence help. Programs like the demolition of buildings make the city safer, ”she said.
Investigators have yet to release information on how the shooting happened. Whether it is indoors or outdoors, whether it is an accident, whether there has been an arrest or a firearm has been found.
It turns into 24 hours of violence for the children of the region. A 13-year-old was accidentally shot dead in St. Louis County on Thursday evening. A 6-year-old was shot in the hand in Saint-Louis around 9 a.m. the same day.
