Chandigarh, July 28
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will make a last-ditch attempt to bring Punjab, Haryana and PGI on board to pay an advance on the high-end flats on offer for MPs and high-ranking IT-stock officials.
Despite more than a dozen callbacks over the past three years, neither state governments nor PGI bothered to pay the advance for the project, a CHB official said.
About the project
- 10 towers of 28 apartments each on 6.73 acres
- Base price will be Rs 2 crore for each unit
- Punjab, Haryana, PGI expected to pay Rs 66 crore each
The next action of the CHB
The CHB will wait almost two months for a response from Punjab, Haryana and PGI. If they do not pay upfront, the project will be abandoned and can be converted into a general housing program
UT Advisor Dharam Pal recently asked CHB officials to send a final reminder to the two states and the first health institute for the deposit of the advance within a specific time frame, failing which UT would move forward with other options.
The official said a final reminder to Punjab, Haryana and PGI would be sent in about 10 days. They would wait a maximum of two months and if there was no response, the project would be abandoned, he said, adding that the project could then be converted into a general housing program.
In September 2019, the CHB had sought the advice of the two state governments for the purchase of luxury apartments for their deputies and senior IT staff. In addition to Punjab and Haryana, PGI had also expressed its willingness to purchase apartments under the project.
After finalizing the project drawings, the CHB had in 2020 written to both Punjab and Haryana and PGI to release their share of the payment of 25% of the total amount in advance for the start of construction of the apartments.
In June last year, CHB officials had given a presentation in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha to President Gian Chand Gupta, Chief Secretary Vijay Vardhan and heads of Engineering Department.
