MBO Partners Adds HR Technology to Support Remote Workers
When Kelly Beckner, vice president of corporate human resources at MBO Partners, began shifting employees to remote work due to the pandemic, she realized that a key priority was identifying the technology to accommodate a newly remote workforce.

MBO Partners has 175 American workers and 35 employees around the world who switched to remote working in March 2020. The following summer, the company decided to permanently switch to a remote working environment.
“The company reviewed its technology stack to consider implementing new systems that would support the way we approach work,” Beckner said.
To deliver on its commitment to continually engage workers in a remote working environment, MBO Partners has invested in software from Seattle-based Tiny Pulse. Tiny Pulse is an employee engagement and feedback platform that provides surveys and helps employers create their own questionnaires. Responses from anonymous groups are displayed on a dashboard with response rates, average scores, and referrals to help employers track vital stats and reveal trends.
“We implemented Tiny Pulse to support the employee experience we build,” said Beckner. “This allows us to gather feedback in both small pulse-focused surveys and larger real-time total engagement surveys on a specific item or issue. We can also look at the broader employee engagement and experience. ”
Beckner also uses the Tiny Pulse platform for integration. Since the start of the year, the company has seen nine employees resign and created 16 new positions.
“New hires go through a series of four surveys given at one week, two weeks, four weeks and 12 weeks,” Beckner said. “These are questions that we have developed that allow us to see both [employees’] progression in their function and their acclimatization to the company. “
To track employee performance and help them better achieve their goals, MBO Partners has implemented 7Geese, a performance management platform that tracks the individual efforts of an employee as well as the collaborative effort of a team. The tool, which was purchased by human capital management firm Paycor in the fall of 2020, also helps guide an organization.
“The 7Geese platform allows us to monitor and show our progress towards our business goals and key results,” Beckner said. “Managers and employees can track where we are as an organization, how we are progressing, where we are in achieving those goals and what their contributions have been to these key goals and outcomes. “
The 7Geese dashboard helps the remote workforce see what the company is doing on each project or task and fosters collaboration with tools that allow managers and employees to have one-on-one feedback sessions. during their working day.
“It gives managers and employees the ability to adjust in real time what they’re working on as business goals and priorities change or are nuanced,” Beckner said.
Listen to retain employees
One of the dangers is that many organizations use these platforms to get their message out to employees, but fail to listen and listen to the feelings of employees, said David Johnson, senior analyst covering the experience of employees at Forrester Research Inc, based in Cambridge, MA.

To prevent burnout and improve well-being, MBO Partners has partnered with Inova Health System, a nonprofit healthcare organization based in Falls Church, Virginia. MBO employees use the Inova Wellness Portal, which is a gamification platform with activities and challenges focused on mindfulness, finance, fitness, relaxation and nutrition.
While Beckner describes her company’s employees as working on a “100% remote” basis, she said employees have the option of using her new site in Ashburn, Va., As needed through the Envoy hotel software. Using the Envoy app, employees can reserve an office and reserve a workspace when they return to the office.
“Envoy’s hotel hot desk reservation system allows us to manage and optimize our new office environment in a way that helps us maintain social distancing and workplace safety,” Beckner said. . “Employees can choose to work in the office as they wish, but it is not mandatory. Where permitted, we will hold regular meetings of all staff in person.”
As MBO Partners continues to improve its technology stack, Beckner said one of the main lessons she has learned during the pandemic is that implementing technology that can harness employee concerns and take into account load unexpected changes in their workflow is the key to a company’s ability to survive in difficult conditions. times.
“A good HR technology strategy should drive engagement, connection, information sharing, ease of access to information, and productivity associated with personal well-being and growth,” Beckner said. “When you address all of these factors, you have a successful tech stack. ”
